Theatre of Embodied Operations: Sensorial Walking, Experiential Mapping and Letter-Writing-Drawing

In this presentation, we introduce a workshop method that we have developed to assist groups of study participants to narrate their personal stories related to urban and natural environments, which have been changed – and wounded – over time through human and other-than-human entanglements. The workshop combines sensorial walking with narrative mapping and writing visual letters to encourage multilayered expressions and understandings of relating with the environment. These are shared through multimodal narrations of the embodied experiences, of not only the present, but also lost or imaginary places from the past.

The workshops invite the participants to create their own wayfaring maps, as almost like authentic languages for communicating how they construct meaning within their living relationships with the landscape, and how they re-imagine these relationships across time and space, also pointing at what is absent, what is missing, and what could be done differently – even for healing wounded environments.…
